Inadvertent Thyroid Radiation During Computed Tomography of the Chest: A Retrospective Study

نویسندگان

چکیده

BACKGROUND፡ The thyroid, along with the breast, lung, and bone marrow, is among most radiosensitive organs. This study aims to assess rate of unnecessary radiation exposure thyroid gland in patients who had chest Computed Tomography (CT) at a large teaching hospital.
METHOD: Hospital-based retrospective cross-sectional on 1,306 underwent CT from July 2018 January 2019. Thyroid inclusion dose studies was evaluated. Data collected by evaluating scans Picture Archive Communication System (MedWeb).
RESULT: Out 1306 patients, Chest intravenous iodinated contrast media used 95.4% scans. included 99.8% scans, out which 76.9% whole gland. Among previous 75.3% one scan 24.7% two DLP (Dose Length Product) mGycm lower females (360.33±32) compared males (426.45±378.4). lowest value observed pediatric age range 1-5 years 146.83, while highest those above 18 mean 418.31. CONCLUSION: majority unnecessarily include gland, sensitive organs for radiation-induced effects. Authors recommend optimized technique avoid future impacts.

The Prevalence of Unanticipated Hamate Hook Abnormalities in Computed Tomography Scans: A Retrospective Study

Background:It is possible that some hamate hook fractures are not diagnosed or treated, thereby affecting the study of their natural history. Study of the prevalence of incidental hamate hook fractures, nonunions, and other abnormalities on computed tomography (CT) ordered for another reason could document a subset of undiagnosed and untreated hamate hook fractures which might change our under...

Dose Reduction Methods in Chest Computed Tomography

Introduction: Computed tomography is one of the most powerful tools for investigating thorax disease, because it shows progression of lung disease much clearer than chest radiography. Technical advances in CT scanners have led to some abilities for CT scanners such as coverage of larger volume, lower noise and ability for acquiring image in one respiratory phase. However, this will be accompani...
